‘the william c. daldy’
spray and acrylic on canvas
76 x 76cm
I love the Daldy, ever since I worked at the Depot Artspace and helped with a website featuring it – and also included it in a mural back then. Such an iconic wee vessel, that spent many decades zipping around the Manukau Harbour. “The William C Daldy was delivered to Auckland in January 1936 and worked diligently up to 1977 when she was laid up for retirement.”
It’s probably not that accurate to the vessel itself – I didn’t look at references much, because this piece was painted as a ‘live art’ experience at the 2025 Auckland Art Fair, held at the Daldy’s home, the Viaduct. Kind of a.. whimsical interpretation, I guess.
